Senator Joseph Biden in ‘08

I was looking forward to the break before the start of the ‘06 mid-term election campaigning. Not to mention the long break until 2007 and the start of the next presidential campaigns.
Is this what American politics have come to, continuous campaigning? The first Wednesday in November is to come to be known as Campaign kick-off day. This is more evidence that being a politician is a career in and of itself. Actual running of the country is secondary.
…of the people, by the people and for the people.
Politicians should have term-limits, get paid minimum wage and campaigns shouldn’t be allowed to start until 120 days before Election Day. They work for us so we should treat them as at-will employees. Politicians should be held accountable by their constituents. Not just on Election Day but everyday. “You don’t measure up to representing our needs and desires so….
“You’re fired!”
This won’t happen until people are tired of the posturing and the media coverage of it. With the popularity of reality shows, I don’t see it happening any time soon. C-span is the next giant network, The Real Political World will be a hit. Bah!!
