Screenshots of Chinese Censorship

I haven’t posted about censorship in a while (lots of stuff in drafts but no time to comment) so what better way to dive back in than with China and/or Microsoft censoring MSN Spaces.
I’ve been reading about this on a few different blogs the past week, but this is the first I’ve seen where someone tried to start a blog in Chinese and got screenshots. She has text to go along with it describing what was censored. She chose
“I love freedom of speech, human rights, and democracy.”
(in Chinese) as the title of her blog and got this error message:
“You must enter a title for your space. The title must not contain prohibited language, such as profanity. Please type a different title.”
I love it. Freedom of Speech, human rights and democracy are placed in the same category as your garden variety four-letter words. It begs the question, “Is it China or Microsoft or both?” Fortunately she was able to get around it and now will be able to help others do it. Global Voices Online» Screenshots of Censorship
Go read the whole thing.
