Blogging challenge: Galatians
Jul 29th, 2005 by cadmus
For the past six months my blogging has been light and erratic compared to the first six months of this blog. One major reason was limited time. I have a few different projects that are ongoing outside of church, family, household and work. This has left the time and energy needed for blogging wanting. Another reason was that I’ve been considering the focus and purpose of this blog. Does is accurately portray who I am in person? Does it touch on the subjects that I truly want and should be covering? And so on.
Well recently I’ve been thinking about taking you along as I work on preparing the material I use in Sunday School. Well that’s a good idea but since my schedule has kept me from finishing it until early Sunday morning, I haven’t been posting about it.
Amongst everything that I have to do, I do have one project that I’m working on that’s fun [Code Name: A.P. This means it's on a need to know basis right now, and you don't need to know. It'll spoil the surprise.;)] I do enjoy preparing Sunday School material but it is a requirement so to speak. You know what I mean?
Now to the point: Adrian Warnock has issued a new challenge. This is what I’ve been looking for. Something that I thoroughly enjoy and would give me plenty of material to blog about.
Here’s the meat and potatoes:
I would love as many of you as feel you can to go read Galatians, dwell on it, mull it over and then answer the following questions in a post on your own blog, linking back to this one.
[...]
The questions, which in some way we should ask any bible passage as we study it are as follows-1. What do we know about the audience and setting of this book (ie who is it written too, when was it written, why was it written, what do we know about the man who wrote it)
2. What impact would this book have had on its original readers- what key messages are they likely to have remembered?
3. How does the situation the book was written in differ, and how is it similar to the situation we face today as christians
4. What is God saying to me from this passage? What key points would I want to get accross in a sermon or series of sermons on this book?
5. What will change in my life as a result of this study? What do I want to see happen to the people who hear me as a result of this study?
6. Given all the above and the resources I have available to me, what illustrations, quotations from other writers, and slogans or soundbites will I use?
7. What is the best way to structure all this material?
My hope is that you will also find this enjoyable and might gain something from it. Feel free to ask questions as we go. That’ll make it that much better.
Any other Christian bloggers that want to join in can let Adrian know by visiting his post about the challenge.
