Announcing the God or Not? Carnival
Oct 3rd, 2005 by cadmus
Adrian brings to our attention the God or Not? carnival with his post God or Not? Blogging goes apologetic.
Here’s some background from the God or Not? website:
Origin
In September of 2005, an unprecedented “blog swap” took place between an atheist site and a Christian one. Chad from Eternal Revolution and “I Am” from The Evangelical Atheist agreed to post to each other’s sites in an effort to improve the understanding of each side by the other. The exchange was considered an overwhelming success, and all involved wanted to find a way to keep the dialog open. The GOD or NOT Carnival was born.
The very first edition is being held at Skeptic Rant and this weeks topic is “Sin”. Several excellent and thought provoking posts have been submitted and LBBP has done a great job of presenting the Carnival.
This is the rest of the intro from the God or Not? website:
[...]
PurposeGOD or NOT exists to bring theist and atheist thought on a variety of religious issues together in one place on a regular basis. The goal is threefold. First, neither side can hope to make any progress without fully understanding the opposing viewpoint. Second, understanding defuses animosity and eliminates misconceptions. Third, there are plenty of people out there who are “on the fence” when it comes to god. We hope that this Carnival can help them make up their minds one way or the other.
Details
GOD or NOT is a rotating monthly carnival. On the first Monday of every month, it will be hosted by a different blog, alternating between theist and atheist sites. Any theist site is eligible. It need not be Christian. Each carnival will have a different theme, featuring posts that deal with a given religious issue. The theme for each carnival will be chosen by the previous host with approval of the carnival administrator.
If interest is high and there are a lot of quality submissions, the carnival frequency will increase.
This is something I’m interested in and I plan to submit posts to future carnivals and volunteer to host future editions. I encourage you to go check it out. Leave comments so the writers will know this is a good project that people are interested in. If you’re a blogger(even LJ users can post), please consider submitting posts to future editions. I know I have a wide variety of theists and atheists in my group of 5 4 readers.
