John Legend cover of Pride (In the Name of Love)

The History Channel has a documentary on Martin Luther King that will air on April 6th. It’s titled “Pride” and if you’ve seen the commercial for it you’ll hear U2 in the background. For the episode itself John Legend has written a cover of the song and a new video is out for it.

I like the use of video segments of MLK throughout the video and the sound bites from his speeches. I’ll say the cover version is pretty good but as I watch the video I wonder why they didn’t use the U2 single or have them play a special version for the show. It’s not like U2 doesn’t have a special admiration for Dr. King, they wrote more than one song about him. Ultimately, it’s nice to see the name of the song used for the title of the documentary and the use of the song even if it is a cover.
