Hello and welcome to the 128th edition of the Christian Carnival. We have an eclectic offering of entries this week so there should be something for everyone.

A few people informed me that this was there first time in our Carnival so I wanted to highlight them first. Be sure to check them out and welcome them to the fold.

UPDATE: We had an entry that completely slipped by me. My sincere apologies.
A Penitent Blogger tells us about Giving it to the dogs
A reflection on evangelization and discernment.

First-Timers

From Wisdom and Devotion we have What Does It Mean to Obey His Commandments
Some thoughts on what it means when we say that we should live in obedience to God’s commandments, particularly as New Testament believers.

At The Way I See It the discussion covers awards at Christian Schools. Best Christian Award: Should Christian schools be giving out “awards” like “Best Christian”, “Funniest”, “Most Successful”, “Worst/Best Dressed” and so on? What are these “awards” really teaching the students?

The Bible

“How can an intelligent person believe the Bible?” has a response to that question, out-of-the-blue, from a reader at Sun and Shield.

Eric “Funky Dung” Williams discusses Bible translation in Language and Order at Ales Rarus.
Witnessing all the recent hubbub about new English mass translation that’s just been approved by US bishops and the ever-present tensions between rival Bible translators, I thought this quote from Peter Berger’s The Sacred Canopy: Elements of a Sociological Theory of Religion might provoke interesting discussion.

At Barefoot in the wilderness John writes about The Narrow Door
The way into the Kingdom isn’t what we think.

Service

Leslie Carbone profiles Rivendell House a Christian ministry to people “seeking answers to the tough questions of life”.

Relationships

Crossroads has Adult Children of Divorce – Part 10 of a review of an important book about adult children of divorce and how they REALLY feel; instead of how society tells us they feel.

Jeremy Pierce at Parableman presents Does God have a right person picked out for each person to marry?

Mandi at Imago Dei considers being Perpetually Single God’s will may be best for me, but it doesn’t mean I can’t question it or be frustrated when I don’t understand it.

Donna-Jean of Liberty and Lily writes about her oldest daughter’s wedding in Wedding Thoughts
“A wedding should be large and grand because it reflects something large and grand – and hugely important. It should live up to what it is.”

God gave Buffett his wealth and now Buffett is turning his back on God by taking this gift and giving it away.

The book “Why Christians Don’t Vote for Democrats ” by Richard Miller is not titled correctly. It should be titled “Why Christians Shouldn’t Vote for Democrats”.

Hello and welcome to the 117th edition of the Christian Carnival. When I hosted the carnival in December I chose a theme to go along with our son’s birthday with the Dog Show Edition Well, oddly enough, this time around, the Christian Carnival falls on our wedding anniversary. Yep, my wife and I are celebrating 9 years of marriage today. My plan was to do the theme this time with a history of the traditional gifts for the first nine anniversaries but I was wasting too much time Googling for it without finding what I wanted. I decided to just present the entries and share with everyone our good news of God’s blessings on our marriage, and our family with our 4 year old son and our 19 day old daughter. I posted some pictures of our new baby girl here: It’s a Girl! (Shameless bragging alert)

Once again it’s been an honor and a privilege to host the Christian Carnival and I hope you set aside some time to read all of the entries because they are all very good.
